Why the Valentines Love Farmers Markets

Our love for farmers markets started when Emma was just a little girl. Friday and Saturday mornings became a ritual, a cherished time spent wandering the stalls, breathing in the fresh air, and embracing the vibrant energy of local markets. For Emma, it wasn’t just about the food—though the fresh fruits, vegetables, and homemade preserves certainly played their part—it was about the experience, the connection to the community, and the joy of discovering something new each week. We are now sharing that with Brittney’s young daughter in hopes she grows to love the experience just as much as Emma did as a child.

More Than Just Food

Farmers markets offer so much more than just groceries. They provide a space where people can come together, share stories, and celebrate the beauty of homegrown and handmade goods. Emma would delight in petting the friendly dogs that tagged along with their owners, striking up conversations with vendors, and learning about how different produce was grown. She loved engaging with other shoppers, swapping recipe ideas, and hearing the passion behind each vendor’s craft. The markets became a place where we connected, not just with food but with people, nature, and each other.

Our Favorite Market Experience: Pike Place Market, Seattle, WA

Out of all the farmers markets we’ve visited so far, Pike Place Market in Seattle holds some of our fondest memories. Nestled in the heart of the city, this historic market has been a bustling hub of commerce since 1907. When we visited, the first thing that caught our attention was the famous fishmongers, tossing fresh seafood through the air with theatrical flair. Emma was captivated by the energy, the excitement, and the sheer variety of seafood—some of the freshest we’ve ever seen.

But it wasn’t just the seafood that stole our hearts. The flower stalls, overflowing with vibrant bouquets of peonies, sunflowers, and tulips, left a lasting impression. The scent of fresh blooms filled the air, and we couldn’t resist taking home a gorgeous arrangement. It was also the vibe like no other. The combination of delicious food, lively vendors, and breathtaking flowers made Pike Place an unforgettable experience, reinforcing our love for farmers markets.
